I am a very private person in some
respects. In many other ways I am outgoing and outspoken. One
subject I consider to be very private is sex. Love I will happily
talk about. I will definitely share my opinions on love. Sex, on the
other hand is a private matter between partners. Or among partners,
I suppose. Who am I to judge?
There are many people who have no problems whatsoever being
judgmental about sex. It was not that long ago that sexual acts
between consenting adults of the same sex were illegal in most
places. That is probably still true in some places. It is certainly
true under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Most places,
however, laws against homosexual acts have been repealed, found
unconstitutional (somehow), or simply are never enforced.
This is a matter of great consternation to many people. They
believe that their holy book requires them to consider any
homosexual act an abomination and a threat to society as a whole. I
think that if such people choose to believe that homosexuality is a
revolting sin, then they should go right ahead and believe that. I
have no desire to dictate to them what is holy, and what is unholy.
I even agree that if their religion prohibits same-sex marriage,
then their church should neither conduct nor sanction such
unions.
If, on the other hand, two persons of the same sex wish to
publicly proclaim their lifelong commitment to one another, they
should have the right to bind themselves one to the other in a
ceremony and a legal contract as binding as traditional marriage .
Civil matters and religious matters should not mix. Same-sex couples
should be able to obtain a license for a civil union that is just as
legal and binding as any marriage license. These same-sex unions
also should provide the same advantages and disadvantages as
church-sanctioned matrimonial unions.
I have much more to say about sex, love and marriage. Come visit
again. This section will grow.
