American Sky
(after Don McClean - American Pie)

A short, short time ago.
I can still remember how that skyline used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had the chance.
I’d go for wine and sweet romance
At Windows on the World there for a while.

But TV screens, they made me shiver
With every scene that they delivered.
Death stood on the doorstep.
Then knocked and took one more step.

I can’t believe how hard I cried.
When I saw them take that final ride.
And something touched me deep inside.
The day the towers died.

So fly high in the American sky.
Lost my brother, he ain’t heavy, and we’re lifting him high.
Those evil men evoked an anger inside.
I’m sayin’ this will be the day that they die.
This will be the day that they die.

Did you write your name in blood?
You’d better pray to God above.
There’s no place that you can go.
Now do you believe that I’ll be slow?
Or hesitate to deal the blow?
Now watch me teach you what you need to know.

Now I know you drew support from him,
And you won’t escape our net again.
You’d better read the news.
We’re coming after you.
You planned and schemed and ran amok.
Like that coward bomber in a Ryder truck,
But you just plain ran out of luck.
The day the towers died.

So fly high in the American sky.
Lost my brother, he ain’t heavy, and we’re lifting him high.
Those evil men evoked an anger inside.
Sayin’ this will be the day that they die.
This will be the day that they die.

Now for many years I’m afraid we’ve grown
Soft and fat, and we should have known
What the end of that would be.
Now the sounds we’ve heard and the sights we’ve seen.
The anger, sorrow and the pain between.
Have a voice, and it’s calling out to me.
And with the buildings falling down
I felt my heart begin to pound.
And as those buildings burned.
A verdict was returned.
So follow Allah, follow Marx,
Your future’s looking really stark,
And soon your day will turn to dark.
The day the towers died.

So fly high in the American sky.
Lost my brother, he ain’t heavy, and we’re lifting him high.
Those evil men evoked an anger inside.
Sayin’ this will be the day that they die.
This will be the day that they die.

Helter skelter, there is no shelter,
No place to hide, no way to get there.
Now your end is coming fast.
I’m crying foul, your time has passed.
No way your terror’s reign will last.
Nations rally, now the votes are cast.

The final consequences loom
You’ve made your bed, you’ve sealed your doom.
You’ve danced your final dance.
You haven’t got a chance.
There’ll be no use to make appeals.
We won’t retreat, we’ll never yield.
The cowards’ hearts, they were revealed.
The day the towers died.

So fly high in the American sky.
Lost my brother, he ain’t heavy, and we’re lifting him high.
Those evil men evoked an anger inside.
Sayin’ this will be the day that they die.
This will be the day that they die.

And they were all there in one place,
50,000 in one space. Targets. Then your plan begins.
I know that your simple plan was quick
With results that made us sick.
But fire will never wash away your sins.

I watched the tube. At every stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
I’ll see them burn in hell.
With Satan they will dwell.
And as the flames burned on throughout the night,
I saw some scenes that made me cry.
I saw people dancing with delight.
The day the towers died.

So fly high in the American sky.
Lost my brother, he ain’t heavy, and we’re lifting him high.
Those evil men evoked an anger inside.
Sayin’ this will be the day that they die.
This will be the day that they die.

I saw a policeman wearing blue.
And I asked him for some happy news,
But he just sighed and turned away.
So I got closer to see some more
Where once proud buildings stood before.
And overwhelmed, got on my knees to pray.

And in my thoughts I heard the screams,
I hear awake and hear in dreams.
Our enemies have spoken.
And all our hearts are broken.
The thing that I desire the most.
And echoes ring from coast to coast.
These enemies will soon be ghosts.
Because the towers died.

So fly high in the American sky.
Lost my brother, he ain’t heavy, and we’re lifting him high.
Those evil men evoked an anger inside.
Sayin’ this will be the day that they die.
This will be the day that they die.

So fly high in the American sky.
Lost my brother, he ain’t heavy, and we’re lifting him high.
Those evil men evoked an anger inside.
I’m sayin’ this will be the day that they die.
